PRECINCT 6

6 CIVIC-HYDROLOGY PRECINCTS

Opportunities exist for catchment of both storm water and spring water, making use of the natural dual water system exist, together with possibilities for retention and detention of water; for filtration and purification processes and the irrigation of fields; parks; urban landscaping and street trees.
The various civic-hydrology precincts, would feed this water into the Sustainability Park. Three of many sixth precinct sites along Camissa, include:

  • The Field of Springs
Stadtsfontein (and other springs) are a potential source for potable water; retention’ detention ponds and natural filtration processes in the field of springs, would include interactive outdoor education.
  • The Zorgvliet Precinct
Zorgvliet precinct and the Hurling Swaai pump and several subterranean reservoirs, provide opportunities for storage and collection of water.
  • Twistniet Field
Opportunities to generate energy through re-building mills or modern water wheels would provide enough power for the public lighting of the central city, creating a learning environment, and a safer one.

PRECINCT 6 - PLACES OF CIVIC HYDROLOGY

CAMISSA is a development framework which, through the use of water, focuses on the reinstatement of the ecological link that reunites the mountain and the ocean into a public landscape, as a sustainable solution for Cape Town's CBD.
