CITIZEN ACTIVATED GOOGLE MAP
The RECLAIM CAMISSA Citizen Activated Google Map is an ongoing project, activated by citizens and volunteers.
Everyone is welcome to join us - old and young, alike - these walks are free to the public and are announced via our Facebook Page. These are two hour fun adventures which occur on Sunday mornings once each season, and we encourage members of the public to join us. Participants on these walks are asked to bring along a garbage bag in order to collect litter along the way; and to dispose of it afterwards.
The aim is to engage locals and visitors on short walks along different sections of CAMISSA, whilst sharing knowledge about Cape Town's water - together with experts in the various interconnected fields. During the walk, participants GPS places and elements related to the cultural and infrastructural heritage of this water system. These markers are then loaded onto the RECLAIM CAMISSA Google Map, with links to the relevant RECLAIM CAMISSA Facebook albums. The place markers will eventually assist in making the city's water story more legible to the public, enabling anyone walking in Cape Town to access to this information via their mobile phone.
The RECLAIM CAMISSA GOOGLE MAP is an ongoing project and many of the markers (particularly those within the downtown precincts) are still to be added - volunteers are welcome to assist - if you willing / able, please contact us at [email protected]

- GUIDED WALKS & TUNNEL TOURS
In partnership with FIGURE OF 8, we offer a guided walk as a fun, mountain to sea adventure for the whole family.
This is an experiential journey through Cape Town's water history, both natural and man-made. The walk takes three-and-a-half-hours: two hours are spent outdoors, walking along the upper reaches of CAMISSA and visiting a variety of special places connected to Cape Town's water history along the old Vaarsche River. The downhill meander includes a visit to five of Table Mountain's artesian springs; and a one-and-a-half-hour Tunnel Tour - an adventure below the surface of the streets, in a tunnel that carries the old Vaarsche River to the castle moat. For more information and booking instructions for this guided walk, please look here. |
SPECIAL TOURS & FIELD TRIPS
We offer a number of custom full-day; half-day and two-hour guided walks and field trips along various sections of CAMISSA, providing for different interest groups. For more information please contact us.
